Mini State of the Castle: Post March Introduction Edition
Hello everyone! ModRin here! I wanted to get a little post-event update going for a few reasons! Naturally by the current date everything is over and has been for a few days now, but keep those threads going! I'm really enjoying watching how all of this plays out!
Post Event
First up, Sans requested of Ozuma that he give "something nice" to everyone who made it back following the event, and of course by extension everyone who was left behind as well. Ozuma can't do much, but your character will find that the next time they fall asleep they will have the most restful, uninterrupted sleep ever regardless of what their usual sleeping patterns are like. Their dreams will also be very pleasant, and may even show happy memories, glimpses of home (that aren't horrible) or hopes for their future whatever they may be. It only lasts for one night! Enjoy!
Ozuma
Secondly, as it's come up a few times re: the fact that Ozuma is currently intangible as a spirit and avatar for Sol Raveh. Originally the plan was to wait until Phase II to give him a proper body, but the more people talk about him (and wanting to give the poor guy a break - you guys are so nice to the NPCs!) the more we've decided to revise this plan. Thanks to the many, many varied efforts of our current heroes, Ozuma has not only started to gain more power, but the beginnings of a physical form! Continued efforts will spur this along further, but actual kindness shown to him will be a great help as well! Bit by bit he will begin to be more solid until finally returning to a properly human body, and it's all thanks to you guys!
Unfortunately there is a downside to all of this. Him being physically human, whenever that does happen finally, will make him an easier target for the shadows and the Queen's antics. He CAN fight (he was a warrior in his own right in his past life) and he's a capable fighter at that, but even capable fighters can have trouble with these creatures as we've seen. He may still need protection since he is the only link between your characters and Sol Raveh. Luckily he will still have his avatar powers regardless of his physical state.
Feedback
THIRDLY!
Bird suggested I should probably toss up a discussion thread about the intro event and things in general. So it's time for player feedback! Throw your thoughts at your mods! What worked about this past event, what didn't? What are you overall thoughts on the event, the game, ANYTHING! Toss things our way so we can know how to better the game and continue to serve you all well as your mods. Of course straight up negativity or "you suck" comments aren't going to be helpful at all, so do try to bring some constructive criticism to your comments.
That's all for now! See below for the discussion thread as well as questions thread in case there are any!
You are all wonderful, and you've all already helped to make Sol Raveh an incredible experience so far, so let's keep that momentum going!

But Ozuma doesn't lose any power at all?
no subject
A little, yeah, but it shouldn't be significant enough to affect him or his job.
Unless you want to send him back to being a spirit in which case get out.

which in this case would have been "split into more areas" but that also would probably be a bit crazy on various ends

Lesson learned. xD Even if there will be craziness it would be more contained.

while it's a bit hectic OOC, it's also nicely hectic IC. Queen should be pleased with herself.
no subject
Yes, she's very proud of herself. So much so.
Miffed that Ozuma brought the dead ones back so fast but hey have fun with your nightmares at least.

oh god, they're ALL GOING TO DIE and it will have ALL BEEN FOR NOTHING noooo
But then I found out about how they could clear the rooms and form safe zones. I think if this had been explained from the start it might have reduced some of the aimlessness that went on in the event's first few days. It was really chaotic--on the other hand, I acknowledge that this is largely my own fault for using the cellphones to reach people in the groups and forming a search party as something extra for people to do.
That said, I enjoyed the chaos but can see how it could be overwhelming.
ALSO the element of danger in this one made their eventual victory feel so, so good. LIKE SUPER GOOD I'm still riding a victory high.
tl;dr I had a reeeeally fun time with this event.

Except y'know when your head mod fails to mention key points. =.= Seriously, if you EVER notice anything like that is missing in the details please tell me quickly so I can edit things in next time. I will never turn away a discerning eye to my words since it's always good to have a second view on these sorts of things.
But I am very happy to hear that despite the hiccups everyone seems to be enjoying it, and I look forward to more of these scenarios in the future. :3

Further, to Rin-mod for making the text-based map. My addled brain may not have gotten the use of it that I'd hoped, but I still consider it awesome that it was made in the first place; very much a labor of love, from my reckoning, and when it comes to create-stuff I can appreciate that easily. :3 (Plus, I enjoyed the detail from what I made time to read so far.
I EVEN TRIED CORRELATING YOUTUBE VIDS TO IT in order to easily envision things had frustrating results when people employed different conventions. "Oh, Eastern So-and-So, okay" - no results for East, only West for whatever reason. I swear I heard trololol somewhere. ...honestly, it would've done the most good if I'd simply had the game in my past somewhere, but alas. 8DD)ALSO! Whenever the February event happened, Saul taunted Cupid and got a payback arrow out of it - but Ichi notified me beforehand and worked something out with me that would allow repercussions without spoiling either event or game. This I greatly appreciated too. (On principle, I'm absolutely for allowing my characters to suffer consequences for their actions; it's always a fear that I'll blunder into something that creates OOC sourness on either end. I'm still working on figuring this sorta thing out, but I greatly, honestly appreciated the other player talking with me and including me in the process. Seriously grateful for that, Ichi-mod; thank you.
(My reasoning is, if I can grouse about things I don't like - which I certainly have before - I can make time to praise things I do. /crossarms)
I'm no expert on this sorta thing either, but as was discussed above, even I'm feeling a touch of the sentiment that this last event was sorta big. I mean, not really in the sense of "damn, that was too big," but more like - "wow, that's kinda big. Where do I find the place to start in all this?"
(I'm easily lost in the first place, as may well be known, but. I'unno, I figure that might help too - just saying "hey, if it helps y'out - I was feeling a touch of that feeling too." And it was comin' from the guy whose head is away at sea, so.)
ANYHOW, IF. I THINK OF SOMETHING ELSE LATER...which I take for granted that I will, or at least that there's a good chance...I could end up puttin' another comment here, but f'right now this is the current setta thoughts. Hope they're some kinda useful. :3

As for the write up... well it was actually for another game, but as it was on googledocs I was able to hang on to it, but to be perfectly honest if it had come down to it and I didn't have it anymore and we needed something like it for our game? I would have done it again anyway. It's clearly going to be more handy than I originally thought and I'm glad the idea struck me to put it out and that people found it useful even with my inane ramblings towards the end.
Ichi and I did talk about that, and I'm glad to hear it went over well. Having IC consequences for your character's actions can be daunting to deal with! But if you're willing to actually put them in place and even use them to your character's growth, we're all for helping that along. Chances are high we're going to be happier that you decided to actually have something befall your character that's relevant and equivalent to what they did than simply waving your hand dismissively and saying "my character doesn't need to learn from their mistakes!".
Hopefully in the future I won't miss key details for large scale things like this, but regardless the best way to get involved really does seem to be plotting with others! There WAS a plotting post up for it but I noticed not many tagged in to it outside of Sans explaining the phones? idk if that was just timing or what but in the future I'll make sure to push the idea that plotting before hand is helpful for all involved.

(Right or wrong, my pup invited it. That's rational, logical, and realistic. We just wanna make sure, as often as possible, that it doesn't hurt the fun in the end. It's always gotta be somethin' all involved can live with. And it does help to know when I'm riskin' it; the mun might not always notice this stuff in time, so. 8D; )
...and you know what, I got the music event post in another tab; you know I totally missed that too? XDD; Seriously. I caught barely any memos for this whole thing. And I think I'm willing to chalk a lot of that up to this bein' a bad RL week.
(I was just wonderin' today, even. "Hmm. Wonder if they've got the music event post up yet." Hurr-dehurr?)

Mostly I just want to chime in that I too found a sort of fun in all the chaos, once it became less "oh god everyone is going to die" and more "oh ok not everyone is going to die but oh god how do we get to them". Ultimately, the playerbase drew together to start figuring things out, and I think that's really the best any game can ask for in a situation like this!
Basically what I'm trying to say is that this event didn't go off without its stressful hitches, true, but in the end it seems like a lot of us are still having fun with it. And a big kudos to you mods for being so open to feeback about everything!

I really enjoyed watching the playerbase come together over all this though, so hearing that it worked out well is equally a relief following all the "OHGOD I MISSED THIS IMPORTANT DETAIL" mess.
Stress and hiccups are how we learn, right? As is feedback, so not being open to it would just be silly.
YUO SUC|< !!!1one!
Like I was saying last night, my biggest issue right now is figuring out spatial relations and what goes where.
Other than that? Seems pretty good! Plotting posts for our actions are a good idea for us players to make, really.
omg rood boyfriend no kisses for you :|
I will see about getting a version out there on the comm somewhere that's edited in the future.
I'm glad everyone is managing to have a good time even with the confusion, though.
Nooooooooo!!! :c
One thing I really liked, also, was Goggs' event map. >_> Knowing what rooms we're clearing, that helped a lot. (Maybe see about getting a posted with a "Current" map, and upcoming map? I'm sure the former's somewhere and I just missed it slash forgot about it, but the latter would be really, really useful.)
Quick seconding-

I did chat to Jeni about a couple of concerns I had during the event to start with. The initial 'oh god they can't go backwards y'all are dead' definitely was a rush and led to some pretty neat IC interaction that I may not have had the chance to do before, but I agree with most of the above, as well!
The only other thing that hasn't been touched here is the forewarning for volunteers in future for high likelihood of death in the initial plot opt ins, be that via here or plurk. That was the main aspect of this event that threw me off for a bit there; just the fact that it didn't feel like there was an option to keep Chara alive realistically, and that I'd been blindsided to that occurring.
mind I had a lot of RL stuff going on this week so that uh, that was the major cause of stress, definitelyAside from that guys, it's been an absolutely amazing event. I'm loving reading all the threads and the amount of OOC engagement that's taken place is also pretty phenomenal. Good mods good game? Good mods, good game. Much bless.
aaaaa /fluffs under pets
YEAH I'M super glad that all worked out gosh I still feel like a dumbdumb for forgetting so much but tbh when I was writing up the posts I was still v much suffering from sick still so I think brain fuzz had something to do with it. As I told Dawn always feel free to kick me in the rear if something important like that is missing. That goes along with telling volunteers about potential death because GUESS WHAT I FORGOT TOO. Hnnn.
I remember now just how out of it I was when I wrote the actual event post, too. The medicine I was on kicked my ass. I was really, really out of it so now I know to get this stuff written up ahead of time if I'm ever in that position again.
I'm glad you enjoyed it and I really, really appreciate you not only coming to me about concerns in the first place but letting me unload on you in chat this morning so I could actually get to this place instead of spinning my wheels in "I fucked up" mode.
We are only as good as our players, man, so you guys deserve praise too. :D

I guess this isn't so much a question as, I hope I'm an okay player. XD
